Now more than ever, most shops are the same all over the world, so markets are the best place to find something special and you can find so much in Brisbane City Markets.
Even after living in Brisbane for so many years, I’m surprised by how many Brisbane City Markets there are. If you’re not staying in the city, you can travel there by public transport. There also may be markets in your area that you can Google.

These Brisbane City Markets have 80 stalls of fashion, jewellery and homeware designs, this is a great complement to the Southbank Markets.
You have two blocks to walk down to see all the stalls, and there are restaurants and cafes on the other side to refresh you.
The street is blocked off from traffic for the stalls, so you can wander in safety.

Brisstyle Handmade Markets
The Brisstyle Handmade Markets only happen a few times a year but are definitely the Brisbane City Markets to come to find something special. They are found outside the State Library between the Queensland Art Gallery and the Gallery of Modern Art and are between 10 am and 4 pm.
Homemade gifts from local artisans would make the ultimate gift for you or our loved ones back home.
From bags to clothes, jewellery to artwork, if it’s handmade, it’s here. Of course, there are cool treats to cool you off on a hot summer’s day and entertainment to enjoy.

Riverside Markets
The Riverside Markets are located at the entrance to the Botanic Gardens on the corner of Albert and Alice Streets. They are open from 8 am – 3 pm every Sunday, and it’s an easy walk from the Central train station or the centre of Brisbane City.
This is a mixture of the city and Southbank markets with artisan food and fruit sold under the trees of the Botanic Gardens. Afterwards, it’s a great place in the Gardens to spend an afternoon, either walking or relaxing along the riverside.

There are more Markets in the suburbs. If you’re on Brisbane’s north side, then Carseldine Markets are the place for you every Saturday.
Even further north is the Sunday Jetty Markets on the Redcliffe Peninsula. You can read about them and more on my blog on Redcliffe.
Want to know where Markets are in your area? The best way to find them is to either ask at your accommodation or Google.

Never realised there were so many markets and stalls in Brisbane! Will visit soon and hopefully I’ll spend a Christmas there too.
I didn’t realise either, Alma. Hopefully, you’ll get the markets that aren’t on regularly.
Those markets are wonderful and Im glad they are still going since I was living in Brisbane.
They are great Bree, and we have so many of them.
Theres nothing more I love than to soak up the authenticity of a place, than at a market. It’s such a sensory experience.
You would certainly have plenty to choose from, Karen.
My favorite travel past time is wandering around markets. Whether it’s artisan food markets, craft markets, or just an everyday market they all give us a glimpse into the culture and economy of a country, and it’s a great way to meet people who are passionate about what they’re selling. If I had a choice of an museum or market .. it’d be a market every time.
Well, Jay, you’d have plenty of opportunities in Brisbane to enjoy markets.
I have many fond memories of roaming the various crafty kinda markets in Brissy. Seems there’s a couple of extra locations now.
Always seem to be more markets starting up each year here.
I bought a lovely dress from the Southbank Market and whenever I wear it at home (UK) friends always comment on how nice it is. I casually remark “oh yes I bought it in Brisbane” ! the global shopper lol.
I’m glad that you enjoyed the markets at Southbank. It’s such a great place to spend a day.
Oh yes, markets are the best 🙂
I kind of like night markets the best though, it just has a different feel to it
I couldn’t agree more, Ann. I love the lights at night and the different vibe.
Now that Australia has reopened I sure hope I can get back there soon. Brisbane is on my list, but so many other places too. Such a great country. Thanks for these tips!
Thanks, Laureen. I hope that you get back soon. Western Australia will be open from the 3rd March, which is the last of the country to open, so hopefully, it’s all back to normal from there.
I love strolling around markets in different countries. Nowadays, they are the only places where you’ll find unique items specific to that country.
So glad to hear things in Western Australia are opening up again this week. Great post – thank you.
Thanks, Jennifer. There are markets nearly every day in Brisbane, from food to handmade crafts, I’m sure you’ll find something to interest you.
We cancelled our trip to Australia in 2020 and have our fingers crossed that we can re-schedule for 2022. Brisbane is definitely on our plans to visit. And local markets are something we like to see. Good to know the days they operate to plan a visit around them. Night markets are always an interesting change.
I hope you get down this year, Linda. I’m sure you’ll enjoy the Southbank Markets, especially the atmosphere that arrives when the lights come on at night.
I love exploring markets if I’m lucky enough to run into one in a new location. I live in a fairly rural area and although we have markets here, there’s nothing like what you’ve shown us in Brisbane!
I’m glad you liked it, Ava. Hopefully, you’ll get to explore ours one day.
I have to say that on my trip around Australia, Brisbane was my favourite city. It reminded me in so many ways of the Southbank in London in feel and look. I loved the markets and bought a lovely dress from one of them which I always get comments on. Really glad things are opening up for you and the markets can start back up again.
I’m sure that things will be back to normal by the end of the year, Angela. Brisbane certainly isn’t as busy as London, but I know what you mean about the feel.
Looks like fun! Love browsing the local markets late evening 😃
It is, Nilima. Hopefully, you’ll get to visit one day and see for yourself.
Hearing the news about the rain and the floods in Brisbane hoping all are ok. Its quite scary seeing the water over areas that you wouldn’t think would flood.
Thanks, Bree. Thankfully, all is good up my way.
